Improving Access for our Patients NHS Choices

Improving access to general practice: evening and weekend appointments now available

Patients who are registered at this practice can now book an appointment to see a GP or nurse on weekday evenings (after 6.30pm) or at the weekends (on Saturday and Sunday). Appointments will either take place at this practice or at another NHS setting nearby at Langley Health Centre. Talk to the practice receptionist to find out more or book an appointment.

By March 2019 everyone in England will benefit from access to general practice appointments in the evenings and weekends at a time that is most convenient to them. This is part of a national drive to help improve access to general practice and get the best possible outcomes for patients. Further information is available at

Dementia UK

We have a representative that attends the Surgery on the last Tuesday of every month in the morning, who you are able to speak with and gain help from, if you need support and guidance for yourself or a family member of friend, please come and speak with her, her name is Santok Modhvada and she is more than happy to help in anyway she can.

November 2017

Following a review of all Did Not Attend appointments from April 17-Oct 17 and shared data with our PPG, we can share with you that we currently receive over 100 Did Not Attend appointments per month. We have found that most of these are the Pre Booked appointments, booked 2 weeks prior and despite text reminders and a dedicated cancellation line these are still not cancelled and turn into a Did Not Attend status, this then blocks other patients taking up these valuable appointments.

In order to give more access to our patients we have increased the amount of online access released at 7am On the Day appointments and changed the 2 week pre book to a 1 week pre book, we will of course continue to Monitor the Did Not Attend Rates and feedback all information to see if these changes have a positive impact on Access for you all.

Colnbrook Updates

The Orchard Surgery runs a branch surgery in Colnbrook. The surgery is in a small building on the High Street. The building is rented and when the lease came up for renewal, the rent was increased and is not sustainable for the practice. A short team new lease was agreed to give the practice time to try to find alternative premises. The practice has worked hard to identify new premises with support from Colnbrook Parish Council, Slough Borough Council and Slough Clinical Commissioning Group. Unfortunately new premises have not been identified yet and the practice is required to give notice by the end of September, to take effect at the end of March 2017.

The GP Partners want to maintain a branch surgery in Colnbrook.

Several options have been explored, including alternative premises (both residential and council owned premises), purchasing of the existing site and extending other premises within Colnbrook to accommodate a surgery premises. Several ‘walk arounds’ have been conducted with partners in addition to property searches, unfortunately none of these options are feasible and financially viable.

Further work is continuing to explore other options, including additional sites and re-negotiation of the existing premises. Due to the legal requirements of the lease, the GP Partners will be serving a break clause notice on the existing premises by 27 September, 2016. The search for further options and solutions will continue and the GPs with local stakeholders are committed to try to find a suitable solution. Should a solution not be found, it is our responsibility as GP Partners to inform the population we serve of the possibility that we will need to apply to NHS England to close the surgery in Colnbrook.

If the branch surgery closure application does go ahead, Colnbrook patients would be required to visit our main surgery, Langley Health Centre, two miles away for GP services, as lots of them do now.

Our commitment is to continue to serve our patient population and we look forward to finding a sustainable solution for our patients.
